''A look at How we process raw Qiviut fiber into yarns and knitwear''

Here we will take you through the processing steps of raw qiviut fiber into yarns and knitwear.

This is a highly skilled and challenging job.we have to be sure each step is completed according to our own strict regime so we can have the Highest Quality yarns and knitwear that we can be proud of..........Read on below to see how we do it!

The above picture is of our natural shed raw Fiber. This is from spring 2009.There is not as many guard hairs in this type of fiber because the major guard hairs do not fall with the shedding, they remain inplace for the animals future coat growth. The job of the guard-hair is to prevent the soft warm down from becoming matted when it's on the Animals back.If the down was to matt and tangle the musk ox could not stay warm in the Frigid cold.

The 1 st step in our fiber production is to examine the quality of the down and then proceed to wash and condition the fiber before sending it to the picker machine.

Still underconstruction........more coming soon!

Step 3: of the processing involves opening the fibre before sending it to the de-hairing machine. The picker machine shoots the opend fiber into the picker room, here we add our own recipe of Anti-static products and our own special blend of conditioners to aid in the de-hairing process. When you get the combination right.........the guard hairs fall effortlessly with no damage to the precious down! The conditioners and anti-static products also help protect and prevent the raw fibers from Friction damage while on the machines.

At this stage the fiber is still full of Thick black Guard hairs and Zillions of secondary guard hairs.
